Guidelines

We want you to have a good experience with your host family. To help assure that, it is important that everyone agrees to a basic set of guidelines. Although, expectations will vary from home to home, the following is a general set of guidelines that most host families will expect of you. Before signing up for a family, it is important that you read and agree to respectfully abide by these.

General Guidelines:

Make yourself at home.
Clean up after yourself, particularly in shared parts of the home: kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc.
Some host families may ask you to help with some of the daily chores around the house.
Feel free to use the washing machine to wash your clothes.
You will likely be free to provide your own food and cook your own meals, and you will likely be welcome to join the host family during their meals as well. Wash your dishes after using the kitchen.
You are welcome to use the host’s address to receive personal US mail or UPS/FedEx shipments, but if you do use their address for mail, do NOT have your mail forwarded through the post office when you leave, or else your host’s mail will get sent to your new address too. Your host will forward your mail to you.
Porn will not be allowed in the house in any form at any time.
It is best to talk to your host before adjusting the thermostat.
Feel free to ask if you need something.
Be respectful of quiet time which will likely be after 9:00 p.m. in most homes.
Talk to your host before bringing alcohol into the home. Some host families will not be comfortable with alcohol in their home.
Smoking will only be allowed outside.
You will be staying in a Christian home. You will be welcome to join the family in religious activities, but you will not be expected to participate if you choose not to.
If you are unhappy or uncomfortable about something your host has done, please feel free to talk to them about it. They would prefer that you be open with them and discuss it.
