International Students, Inc. provides opportunities for students to experience American culture and to be introduced to American families.  One such opportunity is during the Thanksgiving holiday, which is November 24 this year.  This is a time when Americans get together with their extended families to celebrate and to feast, and many of those families invite international students to join them.

What to expect:
  • You will be invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with an American family in their home.
  • The meal will likely be the noon meal on Thanksgiving Day.  The exact time varies with each family.
  • Keep in mind this is a holiday, not just a meal.  The family will enjoy having you stay around for part of the day and join in family activities. Please plan your day so that you can stay for the day.
  • Some gatherings will be quite large, some quite small.
  • There will be 1-3 other international students there as well.
  • You and ONE other friend can request to go to the same home.
  • Your host will likely serve a traditional American Thanksgiving meal
  • Your host will be sensitive to any dietary restrictions you have.
  • You will be expected to follow through after signing up.  It is important that you do not back out after November 20.
You can choose to stay with an American family just for Thanksgiving Day only, or you can choose to stay on a farm for the entire weekend, taking in more American culture.  Whatever your preference, we strive to make this a fun and memorable part of your stay in America.
